Junk Store Finds Can Be the Best Kind
I was inspired by Sarah over at My Yellow House
Sarah found a pretty picture at a church basement sale and featured the picture in her blog.
I decided to blog about a few of my best finds at bargain sales.
I too found what I thought was a really pretty amateur painting which just happened to be framed in a really nice rustic wooden frame for $10. I especially loved the colors in the painting and I now have it proudly displayed in my living room. If I get tired of the painting I can always just use the frame for something else.
Here are some other special buys I have found over the past couple years.....
I really loved the pink teapot (above). I was so undecided about buying it. It was a whole dollar after all. And so I walked away. Went back to the same store some time later with my neighbour Debi and saw the same teapot. Again I was undecided and walked away. The next time Debi and I went back the teapot was still there! It was kismet.... not. I walked away yet again but Debi ended up buying the teapot. She likely got sick of my indecision.
Now it was really gone and this time I was kicking myself for not coughing up the dollar. A while later Debi decided she didn't want the teapot after all, it didn't match her kitchen, and she gave it to me. Now the pretty teapot has a permanent home in my china cabinet.
Thanks Debi.
Isn't that a really pretty pearlescent porcelain bowl by the way? Isn't pearlescent a pretty word? Is pearlescent even a word?
The cute teddy bear footstool I picked up at a yard sale. I couldn't resist. The top opens up to storage inside... very handy!
This is the book I spoke about in one of my earlier entries. I had faintly remembered a book from my childhood but couldn't place the title or author. All I could remember about it was that it was a story a day for a whole year. And I had loved the book. As I am fond of doing I googled what information I could remember and came up eventually with the book which is called "365 Bedtime Stories" by "Nan Gilbert".
After discovering the name I went on the hunt for the book and I did find it one time in an antique store in Brighton Ontario. But for some strange reason declined to buy it at the time. One of those "kick yourself around the block" after the fact moments. After that I searched for it time and time again on the internet only to find it was a much sought after book and very expensive.... if you could actually find it.
One day I just happened to go into one of our bargain stores here in Elliot Lake with hubby who was looking for something and right there in the book section of the store was "the book". I was so surprised and so delighted to find it I scooped it right up. I got it for a $2 book bag sale price!! Even better.
I added it to my childrens book collection which is very slowly growing.
And that concludes my tour today of my best junk store buys.....

New Blogs to Follow
I am always interested in expanding my horizons and searching for new blogs to follow. I love seeing how other people live in places different from my own. I am a serious fan of home decor and am curious to the point of being downright nosy about how other people decorate in their homes. Not to mention I am a huge fan of HGTV (Home and Garden TV) and I spend most of my weekend mornings watching decorating shows, ignoring my own very long to do list. Nothing says delight as much as a successful home renovation. In someone else's home that is. I really don't know how they survive some of the stuff that happens in their journey to build the perfect room.
I find some awesome inspiration in other people's ideas and plans.
Anyway... back to the topic at hand. I am going to post four of the new blogs I have found that I plan on following. I found these new blogs at one of the blogs I currently follow. Thanks for the heads up!
Kate's Place
My Yellow House
Daisy Cottage
The Gardeners Cottage
I hope you will take a moment to go check these out.. maybe you will find a wee bit of inspiration.
Happy Monday Everybody!!

Sunday Spirit
"We Thank Thee"
For flowers that bloom about our feet;
For tender grass, so fresh and sweet;
For all things fair we hear or see
Father in Heaven, we thank Thee!
For blue of stream, for blue of sky;
For pleasant shade of branches high;
For fragrant air and cooling breeze;
For beauty of the blowing trees-
Father in Heaven, we thank Thee!
For mother-love, for father care;
For brothers strong and sisters fair;
For love at home and school each day;
for guidance lest we go astray-
Father in Heaven, we thank Thee!
For Thy dear, everlasting arms,
That bear us o'er all ills and harms;
For blessed words of long ago,
That help us now Thy will to know-
Father in Heaven, we thank Thee!
